Over the past seven years, New Media BC has developed an extensive knowledge base of BC's digital media industry, some even call us "swamilike" while others simply call us collect.
Due to our close relationship with and knowledge of the interactive digital media industry, New Media BC is frequently asked to work in an advisory capacity for several provincial and national groups including the Cultural Human Resources Council, The Telefilm Canada New Media Fund Advisory Committee, the BCTIA/ITAC Critical Skills Task Force, Saskatchewan New Media Developers Association, Trade Team Canada, and, most recently, for Integrated Technology Initiative (ITI) and the Great Northern Way Campus board.

BC Digital Media Sector Specific Publications

Canadian Interactive Industry Profile - 2006
This study is the first attempt at defining, classifying and profiling the Interactive Media Industry on a national level. It is hoped that the results of this study will serve as a basis for ongoing analysis of the Interactive Media Industry that will lead to a more comprehensive understanding of its size and structure. It is also hoped that, by adopting a consistent definition and classification scheme, progress will be made towards independent recognition of the Interactive Media Industry by statistical agencies. This would, in turn, lead to more comprehensive and structured tracking of the industry.

BCIFP Women's Participation in the Independent Sector of the BC Film and Television Industry.
The purpose of this new study was first, to identify any gender imbalances and second, to examine the connection between the independent sector and the service sector to determine whether the independent sector is a bridge to the service sector.

National Game Study 2005 + 2007
The National Research Council, Industrial Research Assistance Program and New Media BC present findings of their study on Canada's video game industry. This study is the first to provide a national overview of the growing gaming sector. NRC partnered with New Media BC to survey companies from across the country. Thiese resources were updated in 2007 by Strad Research.
BC Mobile Industry
The 2005 Mobile Industry Map highlights nearly 200 companies in BC's mobile industry, 40 of which develop and/or publish content for mobile applications. These figures illustrate the emerging use of new media in mobile applications such as cell phones, PDAs, and other wireless devices.
To complement the industry map, a directory is also available, which highlights companies that specialize in developing and publishing mobile content.
The map was produced by New Media BC for the Mobile MUSE project and in collaboration with the Wireless Innovation Network of BC (WINBC).
The directory was updated in 2007.

Digital Delivery Study
The Digital Delivery Study provides an overview of the emerging technologies being used to deliver television and video content via digital and wireless networks.
This first-of-its-kind study, directed by NRC IRAP, looked at 185 companies from across the country engaged in various aspects of interactive digital delivery, with a particular focus on proprietary technology and intellectual property. Results appear on two graphical maps, charting the interactive technology landscape along company and product lines, such as software, hardware, transmission and display.
Launched in Vancouver, this Canada-wide NRC IRAP initiative was undertaken by IRAP Pacific Asia, through New Media BC and At Large Media.

Game Study Launch Slide Presentation - 2004
New Media BC is pleased to offer the slide presentation of the results from our recent study of the BC game industry. This presentation took place at Radical Entertainment on May 6th, 2004, to an audience of over 140 industry members. The Game Study Launch highlighted thirteen exemplary game technology companies, and charted the core competencies of the BC game industry.
The Game Technology Market Study 2004 was commissioned by NRC-IRAP, and conducted by New Media BC. This is the first time a study of the BC game industry has been conducted.
